At one of my last book sales I met a fellow author at the table across from mine. She was selling fantasy books that caught my attention anytime she would talk about them to a customer.
Before the event ended, she came over to my table and we talked trigger warnings. Which turned into a comparison to see which book had more. This lead to us trading copies of our books to read.
Her novel, "When the Gods Play Games" is part of a trilogy. It reminds me of Hungry Games with some Gods and humans. The main character is a girl who didn't expect to join the games, but got put into them with little knowledge of what's going to happen. She is picked by not one but three Gods. All of which are unique in their own way.
The story is very plot and history heavy, but not all at once, you learn as the main character learns which is nice. There is also many different "games" which are keep the pace moving as you combine them with the down moments of training and learning.
The first book ends with me wanting to get book two and reading it to see what happens next. (It's left on a decent cliff hanger).
I recommend this book to those who like Hungry game and competitive type games in their novels.
