A Dive into Role Plays - High School Stories

Remember from last week I told you about my friend, Ravyn, who I meet while designing and making CALNVAK? If you don't, you can check out last week's blog.
Anyway, so as we were designing and working on CALNVAK, Ravyn and I talked about the books we were reading. At the time, mostly Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. (Side note, I got my future husband (VampireGod) to read Demon in my View with me). While talking about it we discussed how we could make the story better.
Now, a few things to keep in mind here. One, we loved those books. Like... I read Demon in my View a billion times. Two, we were excited always to see what the author would do with the characters (until Wolfcry and Wyvernhail... those books do not exist.... sorry, a story for another blog). So we by no means were trying to disrespect the author by saying how we could make the stories/characters better. We loved them.
We wanted to see them in different situations. What would Aubrey do in this situation? What would he do in this one?! We then crossed author characters. Which became a fan game.
This lead us into role-playing through AOL Chat. (Yup, again... showing my age here). We'd stay up for hours doing this, some time for the whole night to which we were like, "Well crap... it's time for school... ok see you after!" It was a very unhealthy thing. :)
But after awhile we began to put our own characters into the stories and so it became fan fiction role playing, to our own world with our own characters interacting. We found that our OCs and worlds were very similar to each other which meant they could be shoved together pretty well. We took a little of one world, shifted around the rules from the other world and created our own thing.
Later on, when I got into college, I began to role play with another friend of mine as well. But my role plays with Ravyn came first and still happen to this day. We don't often stay up all night doing it... though we have on accident if the story is good... but to this day we've shifted our main characters used and expanded our world.
We've talked a few times about writing a co-op story but it has mostly been in passing. One day, perhaps, but for now, it's a great way to build our characters so they feel real to the readers who will get to see them on page in their own worlds.
