So as some of you may know, I started my writing adventures when I was eleven. I got into a huge fight with a couple of my friends, they wouldn't listen to me and wouldn't talk to me, so I went home and wrote my first story. It was a nonfiction TOTALLY true story about what REALLY happened. (I mean really it was all shit but still... I was eleven and mad what can I say).
I gave it to my friends and told them to read it. My friends, bless their hearts, thought it was hilarious and told me I should write more. (Now at the time I was so mad at them for laughing at my totally true story) but I did take their advice, and I began writing.
My first few stories were fairly tame, contemporary pieces about a guy and a girl in school meeting. The girl usually had some type of trauma (I was going through my own trauma at that time so the girl was often me in these situations). But then I found a book in seventh grade called Companions of the Night by Vivian Vande Velde and that was it for me... from there I was hooked on fantasies. I read The Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause, and then picked up her new book that came out that year (see let's age me here) Blood and Chocolate. From there I started reading vampire and werewolf stories and my stories shifted from normal people with tragic lives to fantasy characters with tragic lives.
I also grew up with two older brothers who were big video game players and one of the big games that year was Final Fantasy VII, so I started watching my brothers play that. The following year I'd start playing that, which would play a part also in what I write. During my middle school years and my freshman year of high school I had a friend who would draw my characters for me. (She still does now sometimes though now she draws her own things more and is amazing!)
So what was I doing back then? Well, let me tell you... LOL! We are going to do a series showing you the character designs and I'll tell you a little bit about each story (or at least what I can remember about them). I will attempt to put them in order of when I wrote them, but keep in mind, I might be a little off on dates... this was... sometime ago. :)
Story One - The Year of the Vampire
This was my first story into the fantasy genre. The main character, Amy (you will notice a trend for some of these names for awhile... I had a thing for certain names... don't worry I do sort of get out of that). Meets and falls in love with Brian (like insta love if I remember right). Amy is a typically school girl (pretty sure I was twelve or thirteen when I wrote this one... but there is a sex scene in it... a very poorly done one at that and I think the characters are like... fifteen? maybe? Sixteen? I am not positive I gave them ages at that point in time.)
Anyway, Amy has a few friends, I believe Cerise (odd name for me at that time by the way, not sure where that came from) and Lynn... are her friends and a classmate Matt who likes her and Luke. Then Brian has some friends Laria, Jake, Mike and Nick.
Most of the story takes place in school and there are two "groups" those with light colored hair... who are human and those with dark hair who are vampires... (Take a guess when you see the pictures what happens to Amy who is human and has dark hair and falls for Brian who has dark hair?) Getting Twilight vibes here guys? Yeah... I know, don't worry... mine was written just as poorly. :)
I believe over all the story was like... 15 pages, handwritten, single spaced front and back on lined paper (I don't know if it was college ruled or wide ruled but given it was middle school I'm going to guess wide ruled paper). I still believe I have it SOMEWHERE but I am not at all positive, in my moves I've lost a lot of my older things and I think this is one of them lost... :(
But -- I do have my concept character designs still that were done by my artist Ally!
